Standing Committees

The Academy’s Standing Committees have been re-organized to more effectively facilitate communication and efficiency. Following is the current structure and a brief description of duties for each.

As of August 16, 2024 committee composition is as follows:

MEMBERSHIP COMMITTEE

Duties: Approve all new member applications. Develop, evaluate and suggest modifications as needed for requirements of membership. Develop recruitment initiatives to identify and secure new members. Review issues concerning members or grievances concerning an active member of AANOS. Suggest public relations strategies to market the AANOS. Make recommendations to Board of Directors regarding specific issues or grievances as needed.

EDUCATION COMMITTEE

Duties: Oversee all planning, production and evaluation of educational activities. Recruit possible speakers, exhibitors and sponsors for scientific meetings. Assist in the development of needs assessment and educational objectives. Communicate with AANOS staff regarding progress on recruitment of speakers, suggest procedural improvements and other meeting related duties. Develop and produce additional avenues to educate physicians in the fields of neurological and orthopaedic medicine and surgery and related fields. Market the scholarship program to attract more participants. Review and consideration of scholarship candidates and also other awards that might be granted. Develop educational content for online journal and website.

FINANCE COMMITTEE

Duties: Review all financial information of the AANOS in coordination with the Treasurer and Executive Director. Present yearly financial reports and budget to the Board Directors. Maintain appropriate invest policies and practices to conserve assets as well as earn additional revenue.  Develop strategies to raise additional income for AANOS and its programs. Other duties as may be required / recommended by the Bylaws.
